Situated between mind-blowing Lazio and spellbinding Tuscany (the Grosseto province) lies Maremma – an Italian pearl overlooking the majestic Tyrrhenian Sea and a popular destination with a quirky and fiery temperament!
Combining a gentle and cozy character with a wild and adorable personality, Maremma is home to a rich cultural heritage and thriving vegetation. Showered by a crystal clear sea that caters to the needs of all kinds of travelers, Maremma is a dreamy part of Tuscany to visit, whether you love hiking, wish to put your water-sport skills to the test, enjoy privacy and coves reachable only by boat, or soak up some warm sun. So, if you are planning summer vacations near Maremma this month or any time soon, here are four must-visit beaches that will reward you graciously with their allures.
1. La Feniglia
A huge, wide sandy beach featuring impressive dunes that offer around 7km of pure white sugary sand. La Feniglia is one of the most famous Maremma beaches connecting Ansedonia to Monte Argentario in the southern Monte Argentario peninsula. We are talking about a fantastic family-friendly beach with crystalline, relatively shallow waters, a beautiful shore, and lots of Mediterranean pinewoods providing much-needed shade.
Note that there is a free and a private side on La Feniglia. The private one is well equipped and organized while the free one is more untouched. In any case, you will have lots of opportunities to do much more than sunbathing and swimming here. In fact, there is plenty of wildlife to discover, as well as bicycle trails and hiking explorations to consider.
2. Punta Ala
Punta Ala offers beachgoers two options. One beach is two kilometers long and is located between Cala and the Hidalgo Tower, while the other is at the very end of the port. To reach the first one, you can drive or walk there from the dock. The other shore is also within walking distance from most luxury Maremma villas and mansions in the area. The waters are calm and wind protected, and you may even include a visit to the nearby Sparviero Island. Between us, this earthy heaven is so close to Punta Ala that you can swim to it from the beach! No wonder so many jet-setters drop anchor in the open sea around Punta Ala. This place is simply divinely structured.
3. Talamone
You will see this enchanting beach perched on a small charming promontory and is the ideal place for kitesurfers, windsurfers, and those loving sailing due to the windy weather conditions. Talamone also hides some adorable and very characteristic shores and bay. One of which is the small Bagno Delle Donne beach, located under the famous Fortress (a sight that will pamper you with idyllic views).
Furthermore, abundance also characterizes the wild vegetation surrounding Talamore. Finally, if interested in exploring the underwater world, the northern side of the sea is a treasure waiting to be opened. So, grab your snorkeling gear and dive in! And, if you are around the beach when the sun sets, be prepared for a mind-blowing spectacle.
4. Cala Violina
The Scarlino municipality is home to a pristine shore with a staggering white-sand cove. Nestled within the Coast of Scarlino Protected Natural Area of Local Interest, the Bandito di Scarlino Nature Reserve, and the Follonica Gulf, Cala Violina will steal your heart with its semi-crescent shape, the fine sand, the transparent waters, and the flourishing woods behind it. So, it comes as no surprise that it is regarded as the most hypnotizing Maremma bay.
What is even more exciting and magical is where its name is supposed to come from. According to the locals, stepping on the sugary sand in this particular part of the Maremma coast creates a sound that resembles a violin melody! Do give it a try and see if the rumors are true or not. Other than that, though, Cala Violina also invites sunbathers to its sublime submarine cosmos. Note that you can access this beach either on foot or by bike while some visitors prefer horse riding!
Looking forward to stepping foot in La Feniglia, Punta Ala, Talamone, or Cala Violina (or all of them)? Can’t blame you!
